Jan 4. Romans 3.

Before you read this, go ahead and look first at Romans 3 . See how God speaks to you individually. Then come back, if you wish, and see what God has put in my mind/heart.

Key Verse(s):Rom 3:25-26

For God sent Christ Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to end all God's anger against us. He used Christ's blood and our faith as the means of saving us from his wrath. In this way he was being entirely fair, even though he did not punish those who sinned in former times. For he was looking forward to the time when Christ would come and take away those sins. And now in these days also he can receive sinners in this same way because Jesus took away their sins.

But isn't this unfair for God to let criminals go free, and say that they are innocent? No, for he does it on the basis of their trust in Jesus who took away their sins.
(TLB)

Title: In Jesus’ Blood is the Power of Forgiveness Yesterday, Today and Forever.

Observation: We are by our nature in opposition to God and God’s rule over all things. We in ourselves are self-centered, selfish. In Jesus we have not only the promise of forgiveness for our acts of selfishness past, present, and future, but we also have the power to be changed. It’s not really that we change, though we must cooperate with God. Rather its that we become new when God changes us. God’s grace is not only bleach to take out the stain of sin, but also dye to change the color of our clothes back to the original color and brightness for which we were designed to be and live.

Jesus’ death on the cross is the central event in all history. So is accepting his forgiveness and following Him the central even in our lives. And once again it is not because we are good or worthy, but merely because chooses to give us His unmerited favor.

Application: Had a conflict today. Want to hold on to the anger of the unfairness of it. But once again I am brought back to the fact of grace. Jesus forgave me at the cost of more than a few bruised feelings, at the cost of his body being tortured, broken, and killed. Who am I, as great debtor to King Jesus, to hold such a small debt when my enormous debt has been forgiven by Jesus. Grace is a little costly tonight (giving up my right to feel put upon), but not nearly worth refusing to experience Jesus’ forgiveness because I want to stay mad.

Prayer: Lord God, have mercy on me, for my arrogance (again)! You have forgiven me, help me to forgive others. Help me to want to forgive when my heart get hardened by “my rights”. Lord I ask forgiveness for my heart and the things I have thought. Let me speak words of truth, love, and gentleness with everyone I come into contact with tomorrow. Let me live as a confident child of yours, who does not have to push or impress others, but who is rooted first in your love. May your grace flow through me into the family you have given me.

In Jesus Name,
Amen.

Comments:
For my key verse, chose v. 22. But I enjoyed it in the New Living Translation.
We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done.
Chapter 3 seems to sum up Christianity. It makes it very clear that no matter how "good" we are, it is not enough. v.20 Then the latter part of the chapter brings in hope and redemption.
